Listen to Obituary

Havert Renfrow, a beloved member of the Hartford community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at The Heartford House in Owensboro. He was 99 years old. Born on July 27, 1926, in Butler County, Kentucky. Havert was the cherished son of the late Elmer and Artie (Brooks) Renfrow, and husband of the late Evelyn Jewell of 58 years. He lived a life rich with love, family, and service.

As a U.S. Army Veteran who served during World War II, Havert dedicated a part of his life to our great nation and proudly achieved the rank of Private First Class. After returning from the service he worked several jobs but mainly in the propane business eventually retiring as General Manager of Pargas in 1988. After retirement he stayed busy doing repair and service work, beekeeping, and tending to his garden. He was a man who found joy in hard work and enjoyed nothing more than tinkering around his house. Those close to him knew him as a master fixer, possessing an impressive knack for tackling all sorts of mechanical challenges. He loved passing on that knowledge, teaching his grandchildren to appreciate the same hands-on approach to life.

Havert's family was everything to him. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Lydia Baker (Carlos) and Janice Leisure; as well as his four grandchildren-Daniel Schroader, Alan Schroader (Brooke), Renae McLaughlin, and Todd Baker. His legacy also lives on through his six great-grandchildren, Emily, Luke, Chae, Travis, Aidan, and Ansley, and one great-great-grandchild Ryan who will fondly remember the lessons and stories he shared. He is further survived by his two sisters, Thurlow Roberts and Cleo Heifner (Tommy), and one brother, Walker Renfrow (Sherry).

Havert's family will gather for funeral services on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Hartford Funeral Home, where Tommy Heifner will officiate. The community is invited to pay their respects during visitation hours, which will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time. Following the service, Havert will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery, honored with military rites, as a testament to his service and dedication.

Havert was predeceased by his son-in-law, Calvin Leisure Jr.; two grandchildren, Nora Owings and Calvin Leisure III; one great-grandchild, Hunter Owings; and two siblings, Grady Renfrow and Archie Renfrow. As we remember Havert, we find comfort in knowing his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
